Subj: Dreaming, Conclusion

Gabriel: What did these two men tell you?

Marcus: Lucas said that you'd be receiving a note soon. He said that Quentin would be writing the note.

Barnabas: What if Quentin doesn't want to?

Marcus: I don't know. I have to go.

Gabriel: Ok. (Marcus exits) He would of been very convincing if we hadn't already had that letter from Quentin.

Barnabas: I want to know just what they're going to use to make him write that letter. (They sit and Matthew comes in. He's upset.)

Matthew: Mr. Collins, I didn't have anything to do with Mr. Quentin's disappearance.

Barnabas: We know Matthew. It was Maggie's nephew and Sarah's brother Lucas.

Gabriel: Don't forget Sarah.

Matthew: Thank you. What can I do to help?

Barnabas: Nothing yet.

Act 3 Scene 2

(The house: Enter Marcus. Sarah and Lucas are sitting in the library.)

Sarah: Lucas, tell Marcus.

Marcus: Tell me what?

Lucas: He knows everything.

Marcus: Who knows everything?

Lucas: Quentin. He knows that Sarah is my sister, that you and Sarah are lovers and that she plans on splitting the money between you and her. (Marcus looks at her)

Marcus: Pillow talk?

Sarah: No.

Lucas: He also said that you're going to kill him.

Marcus: Oh. Well he'd better write that note soon.

Sarah: Now.

(They exit. They enter at the cellar door. Marcus unlocks it and they enter. Quentin looks at them.)

Quentin: Well?

Marcus: Sit at your desk. You're going to write a letter to your family.

Quentin: What am I telling them?

Marcus: That you're being held for ransom. We want a hundred thousand dollars and when we get it you'll go free.

Quentin: And if I refuse?

Sarah: Well we know you aren't afraid of dying and your tolerance for pain is high.

Quentin: So?

Sarah: So, I guess if you don't write the note then we'll just have to kill Gabriel. (He looks at her) Very slowly.

Marcus: We'd have to tie you up so you wouldn't interfere but we could even do it right in this room. You could watch. We could even tell him it was all your fault.

Sarah: Let's see. Marcus could invite him to get acquainted drug him and bring him here. (She smiles at Quentin) That way that would be the last thing you'll ever see.

Quentin: What do you want me to say in the note? (He sits at a table. )

Act 3 Scene 3

(Collinwood Matthew opens the door and finds the note. He takes it to the library.Gabriel, Maggie and Barnabas are there. He hands it to Gabriel. He opens it.)

Gabriel: It's from Quentin. He says he's safe for now. They want a hundred thousand dollars or they'll kill him.

Barnabas: And?

Gabriel: They'll be in touch in a few days to tell us where to deliver it.

Maggie: What can I do?

Barnabas: Pretend you don't know.

Maggie: Ok. I hope he comes back safe.

Gabriel: He will. (She exits) I hope.

Barnabas: Now we check out the house down the road. (Maggie and Matthew enter) You are supposed to be home.

Matthew: She wouldn't let me take her home.

Maggie: You're not going without me. (They stare.) He's my nephew and I said he could be trusted.

Gabriel: Well, I guess this will make the odds even.

(They exit.)

Act 3 Scene 4

(The house. Enter Barnabas, Gabriel, Maggie and Matthew. Gabriel and Maggie check out a room. They enter and seperate. Maggie checks out the main rooms. Gabriel and Matthew go upstairs. Barnabas goes downstairs. Barnabas finds the locked door. He looks around and sees the key hanging on the wall. He opens the door and Quentin looks at him.)

Barnabas: Ready to leave?

Quentin: Yes.

(They exit. They start up the stairs. They hear someone coming down. They step back into the shadows. Matthew enters with Lucas tied up and gagged. They lock him in the cellar and all three exit. They go upstairs. Neither Maggie nor Gabriel can be seen. They hear Maggie's voice. They open the door. Marcus is standing with his back to the door.)

Maggie: Why? Why did you let her talk you into doing this?

Marcus: I love her. I've loved her since the first time I ever saw her.

Maggie: So why did she agree to marry Quentin if she loves you?

Marcus: She didn't. She only said that she would think about it.

(Barnabas tackles him and they tie him up. Maggie looks at Quentin)

Maggie: Are you all right?

Quentin: Yes. Where's Gabriel?

Maggie: He came upstairs. I was looking for him when I ran into Marcus.

Barnabas: Everyone but Sarah.

(They seperate. They each take a room. Barnabas and Maggie enter. They hear Gabriel's Quentin's and Sarah's voices. They go to the door. It's open. Sarah has her back to them.)

Gabriel: Sarah, put the gun down.

Sarah: No. You're both going to die. I'm going to kill you first so that's the last thing Quentin sees.

Quentin: Sarah it's over. Put the gun down. (She points the gun at Gabriel. She pulls the hammer back) No! (He steps in front of Gabriel as she fires. It catches Quentin in the chest. Barnabas takcles Sarah. Gabriel and Maggie go to Quentin.)

Gabriel: Quentin? (He opens his eyes) Why?

Quentin: You need to live because of Maggie. I had my chance and let her slip through my fingers.

(Barnabas walks over and Quentin smiles) It doesn't hurt as bad...(He takes a deep breath and lets it out. He lays very still.)

Act 3 Scene 5

(Collinwood. Quentin sits straight up and looks down. He has a scar on his chest he shakes his head.)

No more reading family history before bed. Too many memories.
