Gabriel I'm so sorry. (He goes to her and she stands. He holds her.) I'll have him leave tomorrow. (She stares at him.) Quentin told me how he came home drunk and forced you to... (He holds her close.)

Maggie He doesn't have to leave. (She whispers in his ear and he smiles)

Gabriel Are you sure? (She nods. They kiss.)

Act 2 Scene 5

(Two hours later. Maggie and Gabriel are in bed.) I love you.

Maggie I love you. (She looks at him.) Promise me you won't throw Quentin out.

Gabriel I promise. (They kiss.)

Act 3 Scene 1

(The next morning at Collinwood. Maggie enters and Quentin is having coffee.)

Maggie Thank you. (He shrugs and exits.)

Act 3 Scene 2

(Two months later at Nicholas's cottage. Gabriel and Quentin are sitting on benches. Angelique enters and hands each of them a glass.)

Quentin Thank you Miss Bouchard.

Angelique You're welcome Mr. Collins.

Quentin Please call me Quentin.

Angelique Alright. Quentin it is. You may call me Angelique. (Enter Nicholas)

Nicholas I'm sorry I'm late. I was unavoidably detained. I see you've met my sister. (He looks around.) Gabriel, where's your lovely wife?

Gabriel I'm afraid we had a change of plans. My wife is expecting.

Nicholas Congratulations. Would you like to see what's being offered?

Gabriel Yes. (Nicholas smiles)

Nicholas Are you coming Angelique?

Angelique Yes. (Gabriel and Quentin stand. They exit.)

Act 3 Scene 3

(Two hours later. They enter)

Nicholas What do you think?

Gabriel I think we may have a deal.

Nicholas Good. Shall we discuss it? (Nicholas Quentin and Gabriel exit.)

Act 3 Scene 4

(Later that night. Nicholas and Angelique are on the porch.)

Angelique Did we get a good price?

Nicholas Yes we did. You like Mr. Collins?

Angelique Gabriel? He's married.

Nicholas I was talking about Quentin.

Angelique Yes.

Nicholas They plan on leaving as soon as we finish up our business.

Angelique That's too bad.

Nicholas Would you like to accompany them?

Angelique How would I return?

Nicholas I will give Gabriel money for your passage back. (Her eyes are shining and she smiles)

Angelique Really? (He nods) I would like that. To see where mother was from.

Nicholas We'll talk to them tomorrow. (They exit.)

Act 3 Scene 5

(The next morning. Gabriel enters the cottage and Nicholas looks up.)Good morning.

Gabriel Good morning.

Nicholas I have a favor to ask.

Gabriel What is it?

Nicholas I would like my sister to accompany you and your brother back to America.

Gabriel How does your sister feel about this?

Nicholas She's all for it. (He looks around) To be honest with you there's a young man
and he's not who my sister should be around.

Gabriel Oh. We're leaving in a couple of days.

Nicholas So much the better. (They smile.)

Act 4 Scene 1

(Three days later on board a ship. Quentin, Gabriel, and Angelique are there. They're waving.
