Act 4 Scene 2

( Later that day. Angelique is sitting on a crate. She's staring out to sea. Enter Gabriel. He walks over to her.)

Gabriel Hello Angelique.

Angelique Hello Mr. Collins.

Gabriel Please call me Gabriel.

Angelique Alright.

Gabriel Do you have relatives in America?

Angelique My mother was from America. As far as I know I have no one there.

Gabriel So tell me about yourself.

Angelique I'm single and by some standards an old maid. I was interested in a young man but I'm afraid my brother didn't approve.

Gabriel When we get to Collinsport I'd like you to stay at Collinwood.

Angelique I don't want to be any trouble.

Gabriel We have a small cottage on the estate where you may stay.

Angelique Thank you. (Enter Quentin. He walks over.) Hello Quentin.

Quentin Hello Angelique. How are you?

Angelique I'm fine. (She smiles) How are you?

Quentin I'm fine. Are you looking forward to your visit?

Angelique Yes I am. How long will it take for us to arrive?

Quentin About six weeks.

Angelique Oh.

Act 4 Scene 3

(Six weeks later in Collinsport. Gabriel, Quentin and Angelique are standing on the dock.)

Gabriel I'll hire a carriage. (He exits)

Quentin So where are you staying?

Angelique Your brother has offered me a small cottage on your estate.

Quentin Oh. (He smiles. Gabriel drives up. They put bags in the carriage. Quentin helps Angelique into the carriage.) I'll see you at home.

Gabriel Where are you going?

Quentin To the office. (He walks away. They drive off.)

Act 4 Scene 4

(Collinwood. Enter Gabriel and Angelique. Enter Maggie. She's about six months pregnant. She goes to Gabriel and they hug. He kisses her cheek. She looks at Angelique)

Maggie It's good to have you home Gabriel. (She holds out her hand to Angelique.) I'm Maggie Collins.

Angelique I'm Angelique bouchard. (She takes her hand) It's nice to meet you.

Maggie It will be nice to have another woman here.

Gabriel I told Angelique she could stay at the cottage.

Maggie Ok. (She looks around) Where's Quentin?

Gabriel He went to the office.

Maggie Oh. (She smiles) You will stay for dinner, won't you?

Angelique I would like that. I would like to get settled in.

Maggie Of course. I'll walk you there.

Angelique Thank you. (They exit.)

Act 4 Scene 5

(A month later. The cottage. Someone pounds on the door. Enter Angelique. She's wearing a robe and her hair is mussed from sleeping. She opens the door and Quentin smiles at her) Quentin? What are you doing here?

Quentin I came to see you. You've been on my mind ever since I first laid eyes on
you. Are you ok?

Angelique Yes. Thank you. (She starts to close the door but he won't let her. She smells alcohol) You've been drinking. You're drunk.

Quentin I haven't been drinking enough.

Angelique I have no idea what...(He shoves the door open and walks in. She closes the door and turns. He grabs her arms and pulls her to him. He kisses her passionately and she doesn't respond. He picks her up and carries her into the bedroom. He lays her on the bed and unties her robe.) No. Please Quentin. Don't. (He kisses her and.....
