Act 5 Scene 4

(That evening at Collinwood. Angelique knocks on the door. Quentin opens it and she starts to leave.)

Quentin Angelique please don't go. (She stops) I would like to talk to you. Please
come in.

Angelique I...

Quentin I promise to stay away. (She enters the house and he closes the door. They enter the library. She sits in a chair and Quentin stands by the fireplace.)

Angelique What did you want to talk about?

Quentin To apologize. If I had known I wouldn't have...

Angelique I tried to stop you. Remember?

Quentin I remember. I meant what I said. I fell in love with you the first time I ever saw you.

Angelique And you prove your love by forcing me to submit to you? No. I don't think
so. Good night Mr. Collins. (She stands and exits.)

Quentin Well that went as expected. (He exits.)

Act 5 Scene 5

(Two months later at Collinwood. Maggie and Gabriel are asleep. maggie sits straight up and moans. Gabriel looks at her as she's clutching her abdomen.)

Gabriel Is it the baby? (She nods.) It's time?

Maggie Get Angelique. I need her.

Gabriel Yes. I...(He fumbles with his pants and then dresses. He runs out the door and down the stairs. He sees Quentin in the library.)

Quentin, it's time!

Quentin Time?

Gabriel The baby! It's coming! Get Angelique!

Maggie needs her. Go tell her.

Quentin I will if you calm down. Go back up and stay with Maggie. (He exits and Gabriel runs back up the stairs. He enters the bedroom and Maggie looks at him.)

Gabriel Quentin's gone to get Angelique.

Maggie Good.

Act 6 Scene 1

(The cottage.Angelique opens the door and Quentin is there.)

Angelique What do you want?

Quentin It's Maggie. It's time.

Angelique Let me get dressed. (She exits. She enters a few minutes later carrying a small bag. They exit.)

Act 6 Scene 2

(Collinwood. Enter Quentin and Angelique. They go upstairs and enter the bedroom. Gabriel goes to Angelique.)

Gabriel I'm so glad you're here. I can't do anything right for her.

Angelique Both of you out.

Gabriel But...

Angelique There's nothing you can do. It's up to her and God. I'm only here to help if it becomes necessary. (Gabriel and Quentin exit into the hall.)Maggie, I'm going to fix some of that drink I was telling you about. (Maggie nods.She takes some powder and pours it into a glass. She adds some water and mixes it. She hands it to Maggie.)Drink.

(She does. In the hall Gabriel is pacing. They hear Maggie scream.)

Act 6 Scene 3

(The next day. Angelique opens the door and Gabriel looks at her.) You have a son. (She's smiling) They are both fine. Maggie's just tired.

Gabriel Can I see them? (She steps aside and he enters. She steps in the hall. Gabriel goes to Maggie. She's holding the baby and he looks at them.) He's beautiful and so are you. (He kisses her) I love you.

Maggie I love you.(She smiles and hands him the baby. He places him in a cradle by the bed and looks at Maggie. She's asleep and he walks out. He enters the hall and Angelique smiles at him.)

Gabriel Thank you.

Angelique I didn't do anything. Maggie did it all. (They exit downstairs. She walks to the door) Tell Maggie I'll be back later.

Gabriel I will. (She exits.)

Act 6 Scene 4

(Three days later at the cottage. Angelique opens the door and Maggie is there. Angelique is very pale.)

Maggie I wanted to thank you.

Angelique You don't have to.

Maggie Are you ill?

Angelique No. (She looks down at the floor) I'm carrying Quentin's baby. I can never
go home now.

Maggie Does Quentin know?

Angelique No. I'm planning on moving into town.

Maggie This baby should carry it's father's name.(She looks at Angelique) And it shall. You come to the house in two hours. (Angelique opens her mouth)I won't take no for an answer. You be there.(She exits and Angelique closes the door. She shakes her head.)

Act 6 Scene 5

(Collinwood. Enter Maggie. She has a determined look on her face. She enters the library. Gabriel and Quentin are there. They look at her and smile)

Gabriel, send someone into town or go yourself. I want the Reverend here. (She looks at Gabriel and he looks dumbfounded) Now. (He nods and exits. She looks at Quentin) You're going to marry Angelique. After you two are married you can decide if you want to live together. Do you understand me?

Quentin Yes ma'am. (He exits.)

Act 7 Scene 1

( Two hours later. Maggie opens the door and Angelique enters. They enter the drawing room.)

Act 7 Scene 2

( Two hours later at the cottage. Enter Angelique and Quentin.) When's the baby due?

Angelique Did...(She stares)

Quentin No. I played a hunch.

Angelique I don't expect you to keep your vows. (He stares at her.) This was Maggie's idea. Not yours. (He opens the door and carries her across the threshhold. He kisses her passionately and she feels his arousal. He carries her into the bedroom.)

Act 7 Scene 3

(The next day at the cottage. Quentin and Angelique are in bed. She's laying on his shoulder.)

Quentin This is where I want to spend my life

Angelique I....

Act 7 Scene 4

(Present day. Quentin opens his eyes. He looks over and Angelique smiles at him) You've been dreaming.

Quentin I was dreaming about our marriage. I couldn't wait to thank Maggie.

Angelique I'll bet we have the record in being married.

Quentin Well...Two hundred years and still going strong. (They kiss and smile.)
