Act 1 Scene 3

A restaurant. Enter Quentin. He sits at a table and a waitress walks over. She takes his order and exits. She enters carrying his order and places it in front of him. She exits. Enter Joey. She sits behind him.

Act 1 Scene 4

An hour later Quentin and Joey exit at the same time. They bump into each other at the door. Quentin smiles and steps back. Joey walks out ahead of him. He watches her and smiles. She stops and steps to one side. She faces him.)

Joey Thank you uh....

Quentin Quentin. Quentin Collins.

Joey You run the ship yard.

Quentin Yes I do. Miss...

Joey Josephine DuVal. (She holds out her hand and they shake) It's nice to meet you Mr. Collins.

Quentin Please call me Quentin, Miss DuVal.

Joey I'm Joey. (He looks at her) Condensed version. My parents were sure I was going to follow in the footsteps of my siblings.

Quentin Oh?

Joey Yeah. They were sure I was a boy. They were going to name me Joseph. Surprise.

Quentin You are definitely a woman.

Joey Thank you. (She starts walking off and Quentin catches up with her. She looks at him and he smiles) What?

Quentin I'd feel better if I escorted you home.

Joey I'm not....

Quentin I insist. (They fall in step together)So is there someone special?

Joey Not yet. How about you?

Quentin Well there was once. (Joey stops in front of a home.) Is this it?

Joey Actually no. This is where I was going. I'm here to visit a friend.

Quentin Oh. (He smiles) I'd like to see you again.

Joey Sure. Call me. (She hands him a card) I'll wait to hear from you. (He takes the card and exits. she enters the house. She hears voices and walks to a door. It's slightly ajar.)

Angelique It takes time and planning.

Jeb She needs to be neutralized!

Angelique I'm working on it! We just need to keep her away from him.

Jeb How do you propose we do that?

Angelique I don't know. You'd better get back.

Jeb OK. (Joey backs away from the door and steps into another room. Angelique and Jeb walk to the door. Jeb exits. Angelique walks back into the room. Joey steps out and enters. Angelique turns)

Angelique How much did you hear?

Joey Enough. I "bumped" into him tonight.

Angelique And?

Joey He's going to call me.

Angelique Good. We have to get to him first.

Joey What about...?

Angelique If he gets in the way we'll have to get rid of him. (They smile.)

Act 1 Scene 5

(Robin's apartment. Enter Robin and Barnabas. Robin's wearing a robe and a smile. They kiss and Barnabas exits. The phone rings and she picks it up)

Robin Hello? (P) No. He just left. (P) I know. (P) I think... (P) Look I can only go so fast. (P) I don't want him to get suspicious. (P) OK. I'll see you tomorrow. (She hangs up.)

Act 2 Scene 1

(The next morning at a barber shop. Enter Quentin. He looks around. Enter Jonique.)
