Morgan walked through the front doors and smiled when he caught Daphne watching him from the hallway upstairs.
She knew he had seen her, and she drew back as soon as she realized it.
Panicked, she quickly ran into the nearest room, next to Morgans and Catherines room. She hurridly opened and hid just on the other side of the door. She put her ear to the door and listened for his approaching footsteps.
He had just rounded the corner, when he saw the door close. A slight smile curled on the corner of his lips.
She panicked as her eyes grew wide watching the doorknob slowly turning.
Entering the bedroom, he saw her trying to conceal
herself behind the door. "Ah, Daphne, why did you run? Was it because you are
afraid to admit your guilt? The guilt that you would rather be wih me, and not
your
husband?"
Her eyes darted wildly from Morgan to the connecting bedroom door.
She knew Bramwell was with Catherine in the next room.
Morgan didn't know, and she thought if he was found here with her.....Morgan grabbed her.
Morgan reached out and held her tightly against himself.
As she felt his need for her, she could resist no longer and succumbed to his desires.
His arms were well-toned as she reached with hers around him, she felt the muscles ripple beneath his coat.
Thier breaths became labored and ragged, they would not play this charade any longer. It had gone long past that point. Morgans heated breath brushed against the side of her neck before finding her lips. Thier desires grew within themselves until it threatened to consume them.
They couldn't stay here, it was Julias room and she would would be back soon.
Morgan clutched Daphnes hand and pulled her to the door. He listened for any sounds outside. Satisfied that it was clear, they went out. At that same instant, Bramwell emerged from Catherines room, Daphne gasped. At first shock, and then hatred exuded from each man as they locked eyes with each other.
It was Betrayal at its finest.... Morgan was more than willing to take the challenge. Thier hatred for each other had increased since Bramwells return and finally hit its peak when Morgan had discovered Catherine in Bramwells arms.
He watched them through the window in the Old House as they embraced and caressed each other. He turned away at that moment and in his rage, decided that he would then persue Daphne.
Morgan had suspected that Catherine was secretly desiring Bramwell. She had become colder to him, and thier sex life had decreased dramatically since Bramwell had come home.
Each time that Morgan went to Catherine, to lie with her, she always seemed preoccupied. He would attempt to make love with her, and always she would be only half aware of him during the whole time. After their lovemaking, she would turn away from him.
He would try again to touch her, and she would pull away, as though she felt wifely duties had been shown to him that night. Frustrated, once again, he would leave her room, unsatisfied, unfullfilled. Confused and not knowing for certain why. It was now clear.
He would repay Bramwell, and in the best way possible--to take Daphne as his mistress.
Yes, poor, sweet naive Daphne. He knew it wasn't right to Daphne, but his heart and soul were hurt and angered at what he had just seen.
But, he had felt it wasn't a complete masquerade as he had always retained certain feelings for her.
But he, unlike Bramwell, had always observed an unspoken "gentlemans agreement", to leave another mans wife, lover, or mistress alone.
Bramwell did not. In Morgans eyes, Bramwell was nothing more than a debauched cad. But now, this was the final blow, and he was to get his revenge, and he would have Daphne too.
Walking into the hallway, was then it had all started the beginning of what would be the confrontation that was facing both men now.
He wanted to kill Bramwell the instant he saw him emerge from Catherines room. To grab him and strangle the very life from him.
Bramwell looked first from Daphne, then to Morgan as though he was revolted from the sight of seeing them together.
He knew what was happening in the next room. He had heard Daphne enter Julias room as he was rising from Catherines bed.
In Bramwells mind, whatever happened between he and Catherine, would never amount to the deception that Morgan had done to him. When Bramwell was away, Morgan persued Catherine until she finally caved in to his wishes.
Bramwell felt that he himself was the one betrayed. He returned to Collinsport to marry Catherine, but instead found that she was already betrothed to Morgan.
He told himself, that he was justified for taking Catherine back. Never taking in account that Morgan had truly and deeply loved Catherine.
Morgan had courted Catherine out of spite at first, then slowly thier love for each other grew. Now their marriage was only heartache and deception instead.
Both men stood glaring at each other. Bramwell lifted his chin and straightening his jacket, said in a low, ominous voice, "I'll see you in Hell, your just as well dead Morgan".
How very prophetic those words would prove to be.
Bramwell turned and began to walk away, stopping by Catherines door momentarily, then turning back to glare at Morgan and Daphne one last time before he descended the stairs, leaving Morgan and Daphne to contemplate thier next move................
