As if his very thought could bring her back, she appeared before him.

Before his eyes she reached out to him, pleading.

Her soft, but cold fingers trailed across his jaw and his own lips. He looked into her eyes which had been a brilliant and beautiful shade of hazel, but saw in his horror, only the inky blackness of death!

Her lips parted , and mournfully she called to him, "my Barnabas, my husband, my life, my all...he could not help her!

He damned Lestat, he damned Nicholas Blair, but most of all he damned himself.

No, It was Angelique! It was her curse that I will never have someone who loves me.

How much he wished to believe she was here. He felt himself reaching to her with all his being and soul. Oh, to only be with her again.

He opened his eyes to the the fire which was beginning to burn out. But he didn't notice, didn't even care.

The soft and gentle light from the candles reflected the tears that Barnabas cried for his Anne and their child.

Lestat arched his eyebrow and inspected the man who had just entered, Nicholas Blair.

Nicholas slapped his grey gloves in his hands nervously as he neared the vampire, still watching him, Nicholas' eyes never left him.

Stopping a "safe" distance away from Lestat. He then turned to Diabolos, "this is Lestat?"

Sardonically, Diabolos smirked and looked into Nicholas' eyes. "Your very observant aren't you Nicholas?"

Stepping in between the two, Diabolos became again deadly serious, continued....    "Yes, and you both need to get things going. And now your time grows short and so does my patience. You have your orders, make sure they are followed. Nicholas, I'm warning you, DO NOT fail me!

Lestat remembered what Diabolos' instructions were, and knew he was to meet with Nicholas tonight.

But for now, he had other plans to take care of..........
