Ann arose the next evening. She looked around for Lestat, but he had already left. Good, she thought and quickly as she could, she left the building again.
She found herself half running to get to Barnabas. So anxious for him as he would be for her.
"Barnabas! I am coming, I am almost there my love!"
As she opened the massive door, she saw that Willie was in the foyer, getting ready to leave. His eyes wide with shock upon seeing her, he dropped his keys.
"ANN! I-I just didn't"...
Ann finished for him, "you just didn't expect to see me ever again?"
"Yes, but I am here. Where is Barnabas?" Her eyes followed Willies glance up the great staircase.
He mumbled, "he-he's up in his room." Willie eyed her suspiciously, "yeah well, it seems he got real sick. That same wy when he-he got like last time when he turned back into a vampire. But you wouldn't know nothin about that would ya?"
She cut her eyes back at Willie. Coldly she answered him,"no, nothing". Turning away from him, with intent, she ascended the stairs to Barnabas' room.
Willie watched and he knew why she was going to his room, but felt helpless to do anything about it. She entered thier room and looked to the bed. He was softly sleeping. His chest barely moving, his breathing was already shallow from the death that he would once again greet before the next sunrise.
Walking over, she sat down next to him. Placing her hand upon his chest, she kissed him gently. His eyes opened to see her. A faint smile came to his lips. He weakly whispered to her, "Ann, you did come back."
"Shh...quiet, I am here. I can only stay for a short while, Lestat is gone again, but for how long, I don't know."
She took his hand, and held it gently to her breast, then brought it to her lips, kissing gently each finger and then his palm.
She loved this gentle man so very much, but she needed him now even more than when she was a mortal. Placing his arm down to his side, she leaned over him and distended her fangs to once more pierce his neck to take in his lifes essence.
He knew what was happening, and moaned his pleasure and excitement in it, surrendering his complete being to her.
Afterwards, she raised her lips to his ear, whispered, "tomorrow my love, you shall be with me forever."
She kissed him once again, then arose and quickly left the room.
"Willie!" She called, as she came down the stairs, "you must prepare the hidden room for us tonight. Barnabas needs to be inside of his coffin by day-break".
Sorrow gripped at him again. He knew that she had once more turned Barnabas into a vampire. His sorrow and anger at what she did, caused him to start yelling at her.
"Why did ya do it Ann? Why couldn't you just leave him alone? Why couldn't he help you without you doin that to him?"
His eyes were tear-filled, desperate and pleading. He did not understand. "Willie, Ann patiently said, "Lestat is too strong for Barnabas to fight as a mortal, this is the only way it could be. He has to defeat Lestat in order for us to be together again.
Ann was becoming exasperated at him trying to explain it all.
"I cannot stay, I must hurry, and you need to get Barnabas ready for his coffin and prepare one for me also. When Barnabas awakes, tell him that I will be there soon". As she began to walk away, she touched the silver wolf-head on the cane that hug in the hall. Quickly she hurried out through the door and disappeared into the heavy fog.
Willie sat on the bottom step, cradling his head in his folded arms and wept for them all..........
