Barnabas looked at the crumpled body of Willie.
He hung his head thinking of how he needed and depended on him.
And how he had grown fond of Willie after all these years and finally, his taking him into his heart as a close friend and confidant.
But now, he was shamed and disgusted that he had done this to him and wracked with pain and guilt over yet another person he has hurt in his life.
But Willie was not dead, simply unconscious. And Barnabas was still too weak to carry Willie home even as much as he had felt it as an obligation of friendship now,....
He had to rest for awhile to build his strength for the battle he would be knew that would be ensuing with Nicholas and Lestat.
He had never experienced anything like this that would try every bit of power that he had.
His anger and hatred for Nicholas and Lestat, and his deep love and concern for his wife and child, were his motivating factors. It was not the selfish fear nor survival of himself this time.
Trying to shrug off the effects of the "crossing over" which to he had finally acclimatated himself to, But totally spent, he thought, "damn it! Why must it take so long to regain my strength this time?"
He sat back against the cold mortar wall next to Willies' prone and almost lifeless body, Closing his eyes, he needed to concentrate all his will and energy into renewing his body.
Lestat drug Ann into the house, she almost tripped coming up the steps from his forceful pulling on her.
Nicholas smiled as he heard them and quickly went up the stairs. Nicholas was so close to what he wanted and desired finally, and then he saw what Lestat had been lusting for.
He understood now why Lestat was so taken by her. But to Lestat, she was only a coup to be torn from his enemy, nothing more.
Her beauty was breath-catching, as the ebony of her black hair was luminescent from the light in the hall, along with her dark eyes that beheld a fiery temper behind them.
"Its ready. Now, bring her down", commanded Nicholas.
"Very well, Nich-o-las, but keep in mind, this is the last order I will take from you, or anyone" hissed Lestat.
Roughly, he grabbed her arm again and pulled her down the steps, she fought with him, pounded on his arm screaming again the name of Barnabas.
Anns eyes flew to a machine that had all the horrors of Hell comprised to make it work.
There were ominous sounds, almost like the buzzing of millions of hornets and a transparent dome over the bed that glowed a sickly green.
Pulsing and throbbing, as though it had a life of its own. There were tubes of different shapes and sizes hooked up to yet another smaller machine along side it.
Twisting around, she spat at Nicholas, hoarsly and with much venom,"rot in hell!"
Nicholas, was losing his trademark charm and becoming livid, He could and would not waste anymore time.
He went over to the machine, passing his hand between a sensor beam, caused the dome to vanish.
Then walking back to Ann, he picked her up in his arms and carried her to the table.
Nicholas lay her on the bed as she struggled from his vise-like grip, but she was unable to free herself.
Lestat came forwards to assist Nicholas with her. Lestat held down her arm as Nicholas spread his long tapered fingers over her ankles as giant leather straps appeared entrapping her legs. Annes eyes grew wide with horror as the realization of what was happening occured to her.
"Oh my God, NO!!" cried Ann. She thought that this cannot be happening! "OH GOD! BARNABAS!! HELP!!" screaming with every fiber of her body.
Again, Nicholas now spread his fingers over her wrists, and they were bound with the same straps at her sides. His voice said with silk, "Now you must relax Ann, this will be over soon,"
She looked at him with wild eyes that were now turning red-gold. Nicholas backed away and he once again passed his hand through the beam. The glowing green dome reappeared over Ann's body.
She heard the steady hum from the machine, growing ever so much louder, drowning her thoughts from her head, and as it droned on, and gaining in intensity, it caused her to finally lose consciousness.
Her thoughts were of her dear sweet baby and of Barnabas, her single tear slipped down her cheek.........
