"Put the cross away, Julia," Barnabas said in a hypnotic tone, at the same time, cursing himself for not taking her blood when she had offered it. Julia smiled at the arrogance of the man she loved, thinking he could hypnotize her. She was an expert on hypnotism, and vampires. Just think, she smiled to herself, after all this time, all the beautiful young women, all I needed to get Barnabas to realize he wanted me, and loved me was a beautfiul young-appearing man.
"Yes, of course, Barnabas. I just needed to get your attention, and talk to you. And you need to listen." Julia said, putting the cross away.
"Certainly, I will listen to you, anything you want, dear sweet Julia." Barnabas said carressing her forearms.
Julia found herself sinking into the bottomless pools of Barnabas' black hypnotic eyes, and his hands, though cold, were burning through her sweater. She found herself leaning into him, as if begging for more. He pulled her into his embrace, and held her tight for a moment.
"I knew I couldn't trust you, Barnabas." Quentin said, as he threw a couple of drops of holy water onto Barnabas, causing the vampire to shrink back, and release his hold on Julia.
Quentin grabbed Julia, and handcuffed her immediately, all the while holding the holy water in front of Barnabas.
"I can't honestly believe you would let yourself be held by that decadent bat." Quentin said getting angrier the more he talked.
"Quentin, you will pay for this," Barnabas said.
"Julia, have you ever seen this impotent cousin of mine morph into a bat? A wolf? How about the mist? Try sleeping with the mist, Julia." Quentin said laughing.
"Julia, Quentin is lying when he says I'm impotent. He's just jealous, because he can't do what I can, and he knows it." Barnabas said spitefully.
"Oh, and just what is it that you can do that I can't do better?" Quentin shot back peevishly, almost letting go of Julia, and when she thought she could get away, his iron grip held her cuffed arms tighter.
"You know, Quentin, it is just like you to start something like this when you're losing. Julia loves me, not you. How could she possibly love someone as childish and silly as you." Barnabas said arrogantly.
"Maybe I've been going about this the wrong way -- don't move, Barnabas -- Maybe I should play mindfanging games with Julia, and let her think she's going nuts, while I'm out pursuing Victoria Winters. Now, that was hilarious. You, making that young girl your next Josette. I'm not faulting you for that, but you look like her father, not her boyfriend. And here's Julia giving it all up for you, and you didn't even appreciate her until I came along, and showed her she was a woman who deserved to be loved and cared for because of who she is, unconditionally, Barnabas." Quentin spat out self-righteously.
"How dare you make fun of my relationship with Victoria Winters. We were a beautiful couple, you self-serving hypocrit. Julia and you look like mother and son, even though, you're old enough to be her grandfather." Barnabas said hatefully.
"Where's that cross, Julia? I'm going to stake that son of a bitch, or better yet I'll make him walk out into the sunrise." Quentin said nastily.
"Quentin, for heaven sakes, he wasn't insulting me. He knows we look good together. And that's what bugs him. He would say or do anything to get me to go with him.
"Don't feel tortured, Barnabas, about your thoughtless words about me, as if I weren't here." Julia said through clenched teeth.
"Come on, Julia, you're coming with," Quentin said, dragging the unwilling doctor with him.
"JUUUUUUUULLIAAAAAA!!" Barnabas screamed.
"Barnabas, I'll be back, I promise. And then I'll tell you what I wanted to tell you." Julia said, blowing the pain-filled vampire a kiss.
"You will not go back and tell him anything, Julia. I'm not Barnabas. I've always appreciated you, and I fell in love with you. Now, I'm going to make you fall in love with me.
Back at the Old House, Barnabas paced and finally screamed, "WILLIE!"
"What is it, Barnabas?"
"Get me that salve you have for burns." Barnabas said.
"Oh, Quentin got you with the holy water again, huh?" Willie said, barely unable to maintain a straight face.
"Willie, after you get the salve, stay here. I have a few things for you to do." Barnabas said in a agitated voice.
"Now, Barnabas, I'm not going to get involved in these
fights you and Quentin have. Someone always gets the backlash, and it's usually
me." Willie was saying, when he found himself slammed up against the doric column
that separated the foyer from the drawing room, and he couldn't move, Barnabas'
arm had him pinned, and his fangs were glistening, and eyes were shooting red
rivers. He bent his neck to receive his master.
