"Barnabas!" Elizabeth exclaimed.
"I'm sorry, Elizabeth. Forgive my behavior, I don't know what came over me. I saw Julia with Quentin behaving like a teenage girl, and I realized how much I love her." Barnabas said sadly, hoping he convinced his cousin.
"I was shocked at your behavior. It was so unlike you. And, of course, I forgive you.
Would you like a drink?" Elizabeth said pouring herself a sherry from he Waterford Crystal decanter.
"No, thank you, Elizabeth. I should be going." Barnabas said.
"You're not going to go after Quentin and Julia, are you, Barnabas?" Elizabeth said looking at him sternly.
Barnabas squirmed under her gaze, it reminded him of his mother, vampire or not the effect was the same. He felt chastened, and exposed. When he was a boy he thought his mother could turn herself invisible and watch every wrong thing he did. He was feeling that way right now. He saw Elizabeth waiting for him to say something, and he said, "of course not, Elizabeth."
"Good night then, and I hope to see you tomorrow evening." Elizabeth said.
Once outside, Barnabas heaved a sigh of relief, if he didn't know better he would think his ears were burning red with shame at behaving so foolishly and getting caught.
Barnabas smiled. He had come up with an idea. Blair was gone on some bogus trip, and his wife, the 'Dark Angel,' as he thought of her, was home alone. He would look in on her, take her to dinner perhaps.
"Mrs. Blair, good evening," Barnabas said.
"Mr. Collins, come in," the raven-haired beauty said in a friendly voice.
Gawd, she was beautiful he thought. This was perfect. "Is NIcholas around?" Barnabas ask, knowing he wasn't.
"No, he's out of town for a few days. So, I welcome your company." She said with a smile that lit up the whole room. He was staring like an utter fool, stop it, he chastised himself. His demeanor turned grim when he thought about Julia with Quentin. They were probably in bed together right now doing every dispicable depravity that degenrate cousin of his had practiced in his long life. He probably had sweet innocent Julia believing it was okay to like those kind of acts. Well, he would treat her like the lady she was, and she would never have to burn with shame, because of the lewd, lascivious manner Quentin had induced her to commit. Barnabas had had his education with the ladies of the evening, and his mind was going crazy with all he had learnt as a mortal and a vampire, just knowing what they were doing.
"Barnabas, are you okay?" this beauty queried.
"No, I'm not, Mrs. Blair." he said forlornly.
"Do you mind telling me about it, if it's not too personal?" Mrs. Blair said kindly.
"Would you have dinner with me?" Barnabas said.
NIcholas' wife was dressed in a white sundress, accentuating her tan, her long black hair fell loosely over her shoulders, tumbling halfway down her back. Complimenting her exotic beauty was Barnabas, dressed in black. He was wearing a white long-sleeve silk shirt, folded to his forearms, and black Armani silk slacks. The look was casual, but undoubtedly rich, and in very good taste. Taking her by the elbow he guided her into the Blue Whale, knowing that his trecherous cousin would be there with poor misled Julia, and he was right. There they were all over each other, and in public. It was disgraceful, he thought.
Would Julia notice him with this beautiful woman, Barnabas was wondering a half an hour later, and they hadn't come up for air yet!
"Would you care to dance, Barnabas?" this exquisite vision with him said.
"Yes, I would," Barnabas said, although he didn't much feel like it.
"When a man loves a woman"... James Brown was belting
out, as a circle formed around the pair. Their dancing was so sensual you could
feel the electricity, and finally Barnabas heard Julia gasp, and looked her
straight in the eye as his dancing partner grabbed his face, and looked deeply
into his eyes. He saw her smile, and wink.
